in the pink
In the Pink is a lyrical series of abstract paintings that emerged in 2014. I wanted to use paint and brushes again and to create looser, freer art. These started as small works on paper in gouache, finished with sections in pastels. Then I worked on larger sheets of paper with gouache and added marks with oilsticks, pastels, and crushed pastels. "In the Pink" refers to the feeling of happiness and to the main color the eye is drawn to in these paintings. Contemporary symbolism of pink indicates the empowered feminine and women's activism for equal rights. I'm not afraid of the color pink or of making beautiful, joyful work.
